we worked with 52LTD to conceived the STORYpod for the 2011 annual Cascade AIDS Project auction with backing from the (nike)RED LACE program. we wanted an interactive engagement with the community through a creative sculptural experience. -
STORYpod prototype A (8)
at Maukahale in the Oregon hills we assembled and tested the first STORYpod - March 28-31, 2011 made of woven brannches and donated Nike Red-Laces -
harvest day april 2, 2011 - maukahale (6)
with the first Pod approved in concept we had a harvesting event trimming Oregon oak, alder, maple and willow branches for transport to the public weaving and building events in Portland -
STORYpod build days and laceUPs (15)
we spent two private weaving days and two "open-to-the-public" weaving days creating the large center shrine and 17 STORYpods. We estimate that over 250 people volunteered to create these memorials to those lost and those living with HIV/AIDS -
nike laceUP one (8)
the first "lace-up" event where people are asked to write a personal message about HIV/AIDS, in their experience, on a red tag then lace it into the StoryPOD using a Nike Red Lace was held March 31 at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike Campus - 300 participants -
laceUP events (6)
we then distributed the 17 STORYpods around the city to places where people gather and invited everyone to write a message of hope or memorial about HIV/AIDS on a red tag then tie it on the STORYpod with the Nike Red Laces, we had 20,000 laces and 5,000 tags -
CAP Auction night at the PDX Memorial Colosseum (9)
after two weeks of rotating the StoryPODs around the city we assembled them with the center shrine at the Portland Memorial Colosseum for the annual gala fundraiser benefiting the Cascade Aids Project, an additional 2,500 people added thier tags and laces to the sculpture that evening
